On June 4, 2023 at 12:05pm the Castlegar RCMP received a report of a grass fire by the bike park in Millennium Park in Castlegar, BC. The fire had been extinguished by the Castlegar Fire Department before it could reach any woods or structures, leaving a large patch of burnt grass. There had been a fireworks display the night before during the annual Castlegar Sunfest event but they’re not believed to be the cause of the fire.

A Caucasian man, approximately 20 to 30 years in age, with a pock marked face, thin build, wearing dark clothing was seen leaving the vicinity of the fire on a dark bicycle.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and police would like to speak to the man, as well as anyone who may have seen or have video of anything suspicious around the time of the fire.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP at (250) 365-7721.
