The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 363 calls for service from Friday Feb. 24, to 9 a.m. on Feb. 27, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Suspicious occurrence

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a North Shore home Friday night after a man entered a house uninvited.

On Feb. 24, 2023, around 10:45 p.m., police attended a residence on the 500-block of Fortune Drive, where an unknown man had entered a house through an unlocked front door. The man fled when the homeowner approached. He is described as Caucasian, wearing all black. Officers cleared the residence and confirmed no other suspects were in the house. Nothing appeared to be taken.

Break and enter into residence

Entering a home through a doggy door landed a man in jail for the night.

On Feb. 25, 2023, around 1:50 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to an address on the 1100-block of Nicola Street where a homeowner had caught an intoxicated man breaking into their residence via a doggy dog. The resident restrained the man until police arrived.

The suspect allegedly mistook the residence for another. He was released when sober without process, pending the investigation’s conclusion.

Flight from police

An attempted traffic stop turned into a flight from police investigation on the North Shore Friday night.

On Feb. 24, 2023, around 8:35 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP municipal traffic officer attempted to stop a truck on Lethbridge Avenue, when the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot down an alleyway. Backup officers and the Police Dog Service Unit attended, but the man was not located.

Open liquor and ammunition were seized from the vehicle. The truck was impounded and its registered owner was issued violation tickets for failing to stop for police and speeding.

Break and enter

Two laptops were stolen from a business on 3rd Avenue Friday.

On Feb. 24, 2023, around 9:20 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a break and enter which occurred around 2:30 a.m. that day.

Body armour seized during traffic stop

Stopping an SUV after it nearly stuck another vehicle led to Kamloops police officers locating drugs and body armour inside.

On Feb. 25, 2023, around 4 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer stopped a vehicle at Halston Avenue and 12th Street. Three people were inside the SUV and as part of the investigation, police located drugs and paraphernalia, open liquor, and the body armour.

The driver was issued tickets for drive contrary to restrictions, fail to display L, and having open liquor in a vehicle. A passenger was also issued a ticket for possess body armour without a licence.

Impaired driving

A man who was driving while prohibited was also driving while impaired this weekend.

On Feb. 25, 2023, around 11:35 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling the area of Fortune Drive and Simcoe Avenue when he conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge pickup. As part of the investigation, the man provided a roadside breath test which registered a fail. He was already prohibited from driving.

The man was transported to the detachment to provide further samples of his breath as part of a Criminal Code impaired driving investigation. He was released with a court date. Charge recommendations are anticipated.

Impaired driving crash

A man has lost his license for 90 days following a crash on Tod Mountain Road Sunday morning.

On Feb. 26, 2023, around 2:40 a.m., police were called by Kamloops Fire Rescue to a single vehicle collision, in which a truck had gone off road and down an embankment, and its lone occupant had climbed up to the roadway.

As part of the investigation, police issued two roadside breath tests, which both registered fail readings. The man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day impound under the Motor Vehicle Act. The truck was left on scene to be towed during daylight hours.
