The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 338 calls for service from Friday Feb. 3, to 9 a.m. on Feb. 6, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Excessive speed on Summit

2023-4161

A vehicle was impounded Saturday afternoon when a police officer caught it going more than twice the speed limit on a city street.

On Feb. 4, 2023, around 4 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP Municipal Traffic officer was patrolling the 700-block of Summit Drive when he saw a Porsche going uphill at a high rate of speed. The officer’s radar equipment established that the vehicle was travelling more than 130 kms an hour in a 60 kms per hour zone.

The driver was issued a ticket for excessive speeding and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Coffee shop disturbance – man arrested

2023-4145

A report of a man trying to block the exit of a coffee shop, then urinating on the building, led to a police response on Victoria Street Saturday afternoon.

On Feb. 4, 2023, around 2:10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the downtown coffee shop where a man had allegedly attempted to stop people from exiting the building by jamming a door with a pole, throwing stuff all over, and causing a disturbance.

Police located the suspect walking down the street, yelling, with a shovel and a screwdriver in his hand. He was arrested and lodged in cells to prevent continuation, then later released without process.

Stolen truck leads to arrest

2023-4232

A failed attempt to steal a truck saw a man arrested by police on Sunday morning.

On Feb. 5, 2023, around 7:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 2900-block of Bank Road for a report in which a person attempted to steal a vehicle, but its rightful owner intercepted and followed the suspect as he departed on foot.

A police officer located the suspect, who resisted arrest and was subsequently OC sprayed (oleoresin capsicum – pepper spray), before being safely taken into custody. He was later released with conditions and a court date. Charge recommendation is anticipated following the investigation’s conclusion.
