The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 347 calls for service from Friday Jan. 6, to 9 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Assault with a weapon

A man was arrested following a report of an assault with a weapon Friday night.

On Jan. 6, 2023, around 11:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a commercial location on the 500-block of Victoria Street where, according to the report, a man allegedly assaulted someone with a knife after being asked to leave the premises.

A suspect was located nearby and arrested. Police checks revealed the man was also in breach of probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Police investigating assault report

A Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was making patrols downtown when he was alerted to an assault with a weapon investigation.

On Jan. 7, 2023, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the officer was patrolling the area of 5th Avenue and Victoria Street, when he was flagged down and alerted to a person with injuries inside a vehicle. According to the report, the person had been involved in a confrontation at a commercial establishment earlier in the evening, at which point he had been slashed with a sharp object. The wound was non-life threatening.

Mischief on the North Shore

A youth was arrested Friday night after police responded to a report of someone screaming, accompanied by banging.

On Jan. 6, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the area near 12th Street and Tranquille Road, and located a teenager hitting a storefront window with an object. The window was broken and a youth was taken into custody.

The youth was later released to a guardian. The investigation is ongoing.

Stolen vehicle investigation

A suspicious occurrence led police to a stolen vehicle and suspect arrests.

On Jan. 7, 2023, around 1:40 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a report of a person spraying-painting a white vehicle black. Police checks confirmed the car was stolen.

With the assistance of the Police Dog Service Unit and General Investigation Services Team, frontline officers located the vehicle in Rose Hill and arrested its occupants, after they attempted to flee. A woman was held in custody for breach of probation. A man was arrested and released with a court date and conditions, with charge recommendations anticipated as part of the recommendation and assessment process.

Theft on the North Shore

Multiple members responded to the 200-block of Tranquille Road Saturday night for a robbery report.

On Jan. 7, 2023, around 10:25 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the location, and upon further investigation, identified the offence as a theft, which involved a man walking behind the counter and stealing cigarettes. A suspect was detained nearby, then released, pending further investigation.

The culprit is described as a Caucasian man wearing a white and cream coloured cloth on his face, a red jacket, and black pants. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-846.

Break and enter on Tranquille

Police are investigating a break and enter at a commercial location on the North Shore.

On Jan. 8, 2023, around 6:36 a.m., a motion alarm was received at a business on the 200-block of Tranquille Road. Two men allegedly broke into the store and stole a knife and bear bangers.
