A significant quantity of suspected illicit drugs and cash, along with a firearm and a prohibited weapon were seized during a traffic stop on New Year’s Eve.

Just after 8 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2022, a frontline Kamloops RCMP officer was making patrols on the 600-block of Duncan Avenue, when he observed a man known to be associated to the drug trade, exit a residence and get into an idling vehicle outside.

The officer conducted a vehicle stop and subsequent to investigation, seized brass knuckles, a loaded 9 mm handgun, more than $5,000 in cash, and upwards of 400 grams of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and codeine.

Keeping these drugs and weapons off the streets of our community will have an immeasurable impact, but has likely saved lives, states Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops
RCMP. We will continue to identify and proactively target those connected to the drug trade in Kamloops in our efforts to keep our community safe.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and no charges have been laid.

If you have information about drug trafficking in our community, you are asked to report to the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
