On February 25, 2023, Prince George RCMP took to the ice at the Kopar Memorial Arena to faceoff against the Prince George Fire Fighters in the inaugural Sirens Cup Charity Hockey game. The game was a ton of fun for players and spectators alike, ending in a score of 9-5 for Prince George Fire Fighters.

This is the first time in a very long time that police officers and fire fighters have played against one another in a hockey game here in Prince George, and it’s clear from the response we received that the community was just as excited as we were to have this match-up happen, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Prince George RCMP raised funds for their Victim Services Unit, while the Prince George Fire Fighters played to support the Fire Fighters Charitable Society. In total, $1775 was raised for each of the two charities, with the final donation being made by RCMP Superintendent Shaun Wright. In keeping with the friendly rivalry, the Officers in Charge of PGRCMP and PG Fire Fighters wagered for their team’s win. The bet: the officer in charge of the losing team wears the winning team’s jersey and contributes $50 towards the fundraising total. Better luck next year, Superintendent Wright!

This event could not have happened without the incredible support received from businesses in the community. A huge thank-you goes to our sponsors PG Portable Toilets, Canadian Tire and CKPG, as well as to our partners, the Prince George Spruce Kings, without whom this event would not have gotten off the ground.

We look forward to next year’s Sirens Cup!
